21, 2010 Dear People Whom God Loves, GOD'S INTERACTION WITH THE WORLD - VIII In our discussion of evil, we must look at two kinds of evil. Moral evil and natural evil. Moral evil is the result of human choices. Only humans can cause moral evil because only humans have free will. Why not have humans who are not free. If we didn't have free will, I don't think that we would be human. One of the things that make us human is the ability to love. If we weren't free, we couldn't love. There is a price to be paid to be able to love, but I think that it is worth it. Would a loveless world be better than a world with love. My answer is no. Puppets and computers are not my image of being human. God is limited by the instruments through which He works. If a great pianist is using a poorly tuned piano, he would not give a masterful performance. Just as a pianist must go through the process of tuning the piano before his music is beautiful, so God must go through the process of tuning humans. This apparently takes a long, long time. We will have more to say about moral evil in a future column. Keep in mind that human freedom is an integral part of addressing the problem of evil. It is not the whole answer, but it is an essential part of the answer. Smile,
God Loves You, |
