The 12th Annual Myser Award and Lecture features “Compassion and the Suffering God,” with Dr. M. Shawn Copeland on Thursday, October 4, 7 p.m. at St. Catherine University’s The O’Shaughnessy Auditorium. Confronted with disaster, the global community rushes its experts to plan and carry out complex rescue missions; yet, at the same time, we accept gross inequality, degrading poverty, and chronic disease among members of that same global community. A professor of systematic theology at Boston College, Copeland explores the meaning of compassion, why it matters, and how solidarity may energize us to respond to the suffering of others. The event is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. Reserve at oshag.stkate.edu or 651-690-6700.
