“Look around, look around”

My theme song this week is from the Hamilton soundtrack: “The Schuyler Sisters” are prowling lower Manhattan singing “how lucky we are to be alive right now.”

My family and I weren’t in the greatest city in the world last week, but we were on the greatest of the Great Lakes, and we felt so lucky. The sun rose over Lake Superior, and I felt filled up. My daughter stormed off down a river but came back on her own. We discovered waterfalls we had never seen before. I felt so lucky. My son taught me to improve my rock skipping technique, and I felt so happy to be there.

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.

We came home to our neighborhood greening up after the 80-degree temperatures earlier in the week, and I can’t stop drinking it up. Spring tends to be my least favorite season, but I am loving the green and tiny little flowers and magnolias.

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.

My parents and husband are fully vaccinated, and my first shot is scheduled for next Thursday.

Look around, look around at how lucky we are to be alive right now.

I don’t have a Father Clay reading on gratitude and delight. When I find one, I’ll use it. For now, I wanted to share this TED Talk from David Steindl-Rast, Benedictine who speaks about finding happiness through being grateful for every moment. I admit I lose sight of that a lot, but right now I’m feeling it, and I wanted to share it.
