Dear People Whom God Loves,
I believe that religion is not an end in itself. When religion is practiced for itself, it becomes an idol. I see religion as a means to help us surrender to the Intelligent Love we name God. That surrender involves the gradual and painful process of our wills becoming aligned with God’s will.
That surrender also includes the humility to acknowledge that God’s will is not known with absolute certainty. I believe that as we gradually become more honestly willing to become aligned with God’s will that our will becomes more in accord with God’s.
I believe that we always need self-doubt to protect us from the arrogance that comes from being absolutely sure. That doesn’t mean that we don’t make decisions and act. If we needed absolute certainty to act, we would never do anything. We need to have reasonable certainty. However, that self-doubt will help us have a more compassionate manner in our decisions and acting. It will also help us to change our minds when it is called for. The mind of God cannot be known completely by anyone but God alone.
