Dear People Whom God Loves,

Let us now look at the story of creation that we find in the book of Genesis.  Here is an outline of the important points:

1.    The earth was formless and dark and a mighty wind swept over the waters.
2.    On the first day God made the light and separated the light and darkness into day and night.  God said the light was good.
3.    On the second day God separated the water into the good water—that is above the dome of the sky that he made—from the water below the dome.
4.    On the third day God gathered the water below into a single basin so that the dry land appeared.  And God saw how good it was.  Then God allowed the earth to bring forth vegetation of many kinds.  And God saw how good it was.
5.    On the fourth day God put lights in the dome of the sky.  A greater light for the day and a lesser one for the night, and God saw how good it was.
6.    On the fifth day God made the water fill with an abundance of living creatures and birds to fly beneath the dome of the sky.
7.    On the sixth day God let the earth bring forth all kinds of living creatures and God saw how good it was. Then God said, let us make man in our image after our own likeness.  And God looked around at everything that he had made and he found it very good.

What I have written above is the first story of creation in chapter one of Genesis.  The second story of creation is in chapter two.  I will not summarize that because it is not needed to look at the two ways of looking at our tradition that are not helpful.  The two ways are: 1) accepting the creation story literally and 2) accepting that science can tell us all we need to know.

More next time.
Smile, God Loves You,
Father Clay
